What is the best time to see whales and dolphins on Madeira Island?

Whales

The best time to see whales on Madeira Island is generally from April to October. During this period, the waters around Madeira are warmer, attracting various species of whales as they migrate or feed. However, it’s essential to note that whale sightings are possible throughout the year due to the presence of resident species. Additionally, calmer seas and clearer weather conditions during the spring and summer months often enhance the whale-watching experience.

Dolphins

For dolphins, sightings are also common throughout the year. However, the best time for dolphin watching is typically during the warmer months from April to October, coinciding with the same period as whale watching. Similar to whales, dolphins are attracted to the warmer waters of Madeira during this time, and the calmer seas and clearer weather conditions make it easier to spot them. However, Madeira’s resident dolphin population means that dolphin sightings can occur year-round, providing opportunities for enjoyable encounters regardless of the season.
